WOMEN OF FAITH ADVOCATING CHANGE
The Women of Faith Advocating Change (WFAC) established in 2008, comprises female faith leaders representing fifteen Brooklyn-based houses of worship, community service providers, and community stakeholders. Recent and former elected officials: Attorney General Letitia James, Congressman Ed Towns, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Senator Velmanette Montgomery, Assemblywoman Annette Robinson, Councilmember Al Vann, Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo, Councilmember Domenic Recchia, Jr., and Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams have recognized and supported the WFAC in providing resources and funding to address health issues and disparities and utilize the collective wisdom of female clergy leadersship to find viable solutions.
This culturally competent health and wellness campaign is specifically designed for the most vulnerable yet most influential community component: women and girls. The primary messengers for this unprecedented campaign are nationally recognized faith leaders who reside and serve communities and congregations in New York City. They are uniquely qualified to provide gender-specific and theologically sound messages that educate and motivate the target population for change. The behavioral change sort is comprehensive, but this initial campaign will target the end-stage or disease states of heart disease, breast, and cervical cancers, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, domestic violence, and mental health and illness.
